Level Theory Of Creativity: unlock 5 levels to master creativity

Level Theory of Creativity

Level theory of creativity was propounded by I.A. Taylor. Creativity is the ability to think differently from others. Whenever a human being accomplishes something uniquely in their own way, that is creativity.

Creativity is not solely a product of intelligence, nor is it entirely dependent on intelligence. We can conclude that creativity and intelligence are distinct in their own ways.

Intelligence may facilitate creativity, but it is not the only determining factor. Interestingly, a child with a lower IQ can be more creative than one with a higher IQ. Essentially, creativity is essential for thinking, problem-solving, and utilizing items effectively.

5 Levels of Creativity

1. Expressive Level:

This is the lowest level of creativity, characterized by spontaneous expression of ideas without emphasizing originality or quality. The main focus at this level is on self-expression.

2. Productive Level:

At this level, an individual is able to produce a new item. They also try to modify existing things, items, and ideas. Furthermore, they use new solutions to solve problems. For instance, a girl trying to solve her math homework uses a method she developed herself, without anyone’s guidance.

3. Inventive Level:

This level is related to finding new uses for old things. People at this level use existing items and objects to modify them into totally new items. Additionally, they use items, objects, or formulas to solve different and unusual problems. Essentially, they find alternate uses for existing items. For example, a mobile phone is no longer used just for calling, but also for calculations, alarms, and flashlights.

4. Innovative Level:

This level involves generating new concepts or theories based on high-level perceptual skills. People with an innovative level of creativity use their creativity to develop new theories and concepts for upcoming generations. They love to explore new and unique things, making new hidden concepts visible, which showcases their creativity.
